This desk includes a tall table with feet in order to give the table even greater height. It is a somewhat unorthodox solution for this type of furniture. The Jose Luis Bello y Gonzalez Museum in Puebla houses a wardrobe with similar marquetry work, but the one studied here does not share the same quality.
The finish of the top part is disproportionate, and the angle of the cuts show little mastery of the trade. The same could be said of the geometrical marquetry depicted in the front and inside of the piece. There are geometric, circular and vegetable motifs but the designs are forced, which demonstrates a poor knowledge of marquetry and the absence of an outline. From its interior it is more evident that this is a modern work (twentieth century). The types of wood used includes granadillo, citrics (clear wood) and pine; there is also gilded iron, perhaps reused from a much older work. The false balustrades that frame the center drawer are also somewhat inappropriate.
