Gallery 6. Interpretation of a Material Culture Critique

Proyecto de demolición: Museo Nacional de Antropología [Demolition Project: National Museum of Anthropology] (2012), by Eduardo Abaroa, directly confronts the heritage policies of the Mexican State, as well as the violence that underlies the appropriation of indigenous cultural production. Being open to institutional critique, the Museo Amparo incorporates this piece to its collection with the purpose of confronting its own Pre-Columbian Art Collection, questioning the history of acquisition of its assets while acknowledging its own ambition to update practices from which Ancient Mexican art is researched and exhibited, by integrating references of living indigenous cultures.
